Waste Management Open $100 Card (Casino Craig)

One of the my favorite finishing stretches in golf happens at the Waste Management Open. The famous number 16 is a short par 3 surrounded by an amphitheater of thousands of drunk fans followed by hole number 17, a drive-able par 4 with water on the left, and 18, a tough par 4 with water down the left. Whoever is going to take home the trophy on Sunday has to have some stones to hit clutch tee shots on the way in.

This tournament usually ends up butting up against the start of the Big Game, and I feel like all of my recent memories of this tournament include Rickie Fowler in contention at the end. He is coming off of a missed cut last week, which hurts my confidence in him a little bit, however, if you forget last week, his last 2 finishes were a T5 and T10. At this point, Rickie is going off at +1400 so that is good value for a player who has finished top 11, 4 of the last 4 times playing this tournament, with a win and a second in there. I will definitely include him in the $100 card.

The favorite at this point is John Rahm who played his college golf in Arizona, so he should feel very comfortable this week. He has had 2 top 10 finishes in the last 4 years in this event. He is also playing at an extremely high level lately. He is +600 and will be included in my $100 card.

Justin Thomas finished 3rd last year but has missed the cut 2 of 5 times at this event. He is listed at the second favorite, which seems a little high for me, so because of the low value, I am going to leave him off.

  • Quick Notes
    • Hideki Matsuyama at +1600 has won this event twice in the past 4 years.
    • JB Holmes at +11000 has won this event twice in his career so I have to take advantage of those odds.
    • Keegan Bradley at +9000 has been playing well lately with his new driver in the bag so I am riding his momentum.
    • Chez Reavie at +8500 is worth a few shekels, he has finished 4th and 2nd the last 2 years at this event.
    • Bubba and Snedeker have been heating up and both have played well here in the past.
    • Gary Woodland is a previous winner here!
    • Bryson Dechambeau has only played this event once, but finished 5th!
